Item: Smoky Quartz Quartzoid Specimen
	This unique item is sold. Code#: smqm111 Weight: 2.0 Lbs Size: 4.8" x 4" x 2.7" tall Location: Mined in Bahia, Brazil Price: $78.50 This rare specimen of natural color smoky quartz is so dark that most of the crystals appear to be black. It shows good vitreous luster on its multiple parallel and stepped pyramidal terminations which are mostly in very good condition with some abraded areas. This naturally terminated smoky quartz specimen has 4-sided terminations standing up from the matrix, but it is actually a double-ended (bi-terminated) bi-pyramid with no prismatic faces. The c-axis is parallel to the matrix surface so the "4-sided terminations" standing up from the matrix are actually the juncture of the terminations of the two 6-sided pyramids. The mineralogical term for this bi-pyrimidal form without prismatic faces is "quartzoid". This is a great specimen to fool a geologist with at first glance, since the form of the quartz's 4-sided crystal "tips" look more like black flourite crystals! It is mostly semi-transparent and becomes transparent at its naturally terminated tip (see a close-up of the tip). This specimen has terminations and faces on some of its surfaces, and these terminations and faces are in very good gondition with superb naturally brilliant luster.

It has mostly broken surfaces with some natural terminations. It is semi-transparent to transparent with some internal skeletal growth features. It does make a nice jacare quartz crystal mineral specimen just as it is, although it could also be carved and polished.

It has broken surfaces on one side as shown in the photo at left, and on the opposite side it is covered with very nice natural terminations (see a back-view photo). It has very good transparency in most areas, and there are some pink chlorite inclusions as well as some rutile inclusions (see close-up view of rutile crystals). It does make a nice mineral specimen just as it is, although it could also be carved and polished on one side leaving the other side covered with natural terminations!
