This specimen of uvarovite garnet druze on matrix was discovered at the Saranovskiy Mine in the Middle Ural Mountains of Russia. The garnet crystals have intense green color and dodecahedral form, and they have very brilliant vitreous luster. They range in size up to about 0.7mm in diameter. This specimen also has some small areas on the back side with vugs and vein fillings containing uvarovite garnet druze.

This fine quality specimen of uvarovite garnet druze on matrix was discovered at the Saranovskiy Mine in the Middle Ural Mountains of Russia. This specimen has hundreds of intense green garnet crystals with dodecahedral form and very brilliant vitreous luster. The largest uvarovite crystals in this specimen range in size up to 2.3mm in diameter! The excess matrix on the back side was sawn off giving this specimen a flat, plate-like form.

This specimen has uvarovite garnet druze together with the rare mineral shuiskite (see close-up photo of the fibrous gray shuiskite crystals with uvarovite). The shuiskite is present in small fibrous aggregates that are the same gray color as the matrix. The garnet crystals are present on both the front (see photo at left) and on the back sides of this beautiful specimen (the crystals on the backside look even nicer than those on the front side!), and all of the garnet crystals have intense green color and very brilliant vitreous luster. They have dodecahedral form and average about 0.2mm in diameter with occasional larger crystals up to 1.0mm in diameter. This matrix specimen weighs one pound and stands up naturally (4.4 inches tall) as shown in the full view photo at left.
