It is translucent to semi-transparent.

The bright "specks" on the sphere's surface in the photo at left are actually colorful reflections or "spangles" of sparkly reddish-purple color from within the garnet.

Code#: alms139 Weight: 4.36 Lbs Size: 3.9" diameter (99mm) Location: polished from a natural garnet crystal mined in India Price: $791.25 This extra rare size collector sphere of almandine garnet weighs 4.36 pounds! It was hand-ground and polished from a natural garnet crystal that was mined in India. The actual diameter of this handcrafted sphere varies from about 98mm to 100mm, with an average diameter of 99mm. The color is a very rich dark reddish-purple natural color. There are some very well developed "4 ray star" patterns reflected on its surface when viewed with a bright light source. The bright "specks" on the sphere's surface in the photo at left are actually beautiful "spangles" of sparkly reddish-purple color from within the garnet!
