This beautifull, genuine black opal cabochon gem mined in Australia is very nicely fashioned and polished. It has a body color of a deep blue with flashes of lighter blues and flecks of greens all throughout the upper side of the gem. Some flashes of blue and green penetrate right through to the back side. This is a solid opal, not a doublet. The back of the gem is mostly a deep gray blue that does penetrate through to the upper side in a few small areas. A few patches of violet and purple allso roll across the top as the light or the gem is moved.The photograph is taken under incandescent (bulb) light.
