Our displayed specimens of magnetite octahedrons in matrix were mined in Minas Gerais, Brazil in 1992. The matrix of these specimens grades from sericitic phyllite into fine grained schist. The sericitic phyllite matrix of these octahedral magnetite specimens exhibits characteristic silky sheen due to aligned microscopic grains of sericite.
