Our phantom quartz crystals were all mined in Brazil, where we sawed their bases flat and polished their surfaces to better show the amazing phantom shapes inside! Phantom quartz crystals most often form when clay minerals begin to grow on a quartz crystal's surfaces, and then crystallization resumes enclosing the "phantom" layer of clay minerals within the quartz crystal.
