This naturally terminated tanzanite crystal was mined in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania. See also a full view of this tanzanite crystal. It is semi-transparent to transparent. This naturally terminated tanzanite crystal has some small gem grade areas at its tip. It was carefully heated and has a very rich purple color in one direction and rich blue color perpendicular to the purple. Zoisite Crystal Specimen, 31.28 carats

This natural color (Zoisite) crystal was stated by our supplier to have been mined in the Nangarhar Provence of Afghanistan. It actually is two crystals that are inter-grown and they are also doubly terminated. They grade from semi transparent at the base to completely transparent gem-grade at their teminations. Its prismatic faces and the terminations have vitreous luster, are in very good condition. This natural color tanzanite crystal has weak dichroism with a very light greenish blue gray color in one direction and a light pinkish gray when viewed from the front as shown in the photo at left which was taken under a mixture of incandescent and flourescent light. This large natural tanzanite specimen weighs over 530 carats. It was mined in the Merelani Hills of Tanzania (Block "D"). This large tanzanite specimen is mostly translucent to semi-transparent. It has a beautiful intergrown crystal that has grown from its base that measures approximately 1-1/4"L x 5/8" x 3/8" tapering from mid-way to a chisel like termination. The upper portion of this is gem quality, mostly clean and very transparent. This is a stand alone specimen and the termination of the main crystal is capped with a layer of silvery black graphite, offering a nice contrast. See another view of this tanzanite crystal specimen. This beautiful, large tanzanite specimen is mostly translucent to semi-transparent. A good portion of this large crystal is gem quality - great as a specimen or for carving or cabbing. This is a stand alone specimen, but due to its height should be supported. The lower shoulder of its termination is capped with a thin layer of silvery black graphite, offering a nice contrast.
