The price of natural blue sapphire gemstones can range significantly depending on the gemstone's clarity (transparency), color, and cutting. Genuine blue sapphire heavily included semi-transparent cabochon gems have relatively low values even with strong blue hues. The price can increase by more than 100 times that amount for eye clean well cut blue sapphire gemstones with strong blue hues. Eye clean genuine blue sapphire gemstone prices decrease with increasingly lighter colors. When the clarity and the color remain constant, the value per carat of genuine blue sapphire gems does increase as the weight increases. The quality of a blue sapphire gemstone's faceting and its proportions are also important factors when calculating blue sapphire gemstone values. Natural color (unenhanced - unheated and untreated) blue sapphire gems are worth about twice the price of heated blue sapphire gemstones of equal color, weight, clarity and cut.
